Personal Statement:

My passion is teaching and practicing the art and science of psychiatry. My goal is for people from all walks of life to access cutting-edge, high-quality, evidence-based mental healthcare. I have worked in mental health care since 2009, first as a technician and aide, then as a registered nurse, and currently as a nurse practitioner and professor.

I became interested in practicing in the mental health field midway through my undergraduate degree in English. I realized the part of the class I liked the most was the analysis of literature through a therapeutic lens and the rich discussion I was able to have with my classmates. Teaching and helping others have been essential facets of my life since childhood. I began to tutor young children in high school, which evolved into teaching summer programs and working as a writing tutor as an undergraduate, and eventually teaching clinical rotations at the University of Washington.

In my free time, you can find me hiking or camping with my family, playing guitar, reading non-fiction or fiction (especially hard science fiction), or playing board games.
